Abstract

This paper discusses the role of the Yalal Watan song tradition as a means of strengthening national character and patriotism amid the challenges of globalization. The song, composed by KH. Wahab Chasbullah, contains religious, nationalistic, unity, and struggle values that are highly relevant to character formation among the younger generation. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods to examine the historical aspects, lyrical meanings, and relevance of Yalal Watan in the context of character education. The findings show that the tradition of singing Yalal Watan in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), madrasahs, and religious events fosters love for the homeland, strengthens national identity, and instills values of tolerance and brotherhood. The song not only serves as a cultural symbol of Nahdlatul Ulama but also as a medium of nationalistic preaching that harmoniously integrates Islamic and patriotic values. Therefore, preserving the Yalal Watan tradition plays a strategic role in developing a faithful, virtuous, and patriotic young generation.
